Ugo Foods Ltd
Ugo Foods Group Ltd. was founded in 1929 by Luigi Ugo in Gerrard Street, Soho. 14 year old Luigi came to London, importing the first pasta machine into the UK and used it to make pasta for the emerging Italian community and noodles for the emerging Chinese community. In fact, the reason that Chinatown is in Gerrard Street is because of Luigi making the noodles there.
Business expanded as pasta and noodles became popular in the 1960’s with Italian and Chinese restaurants and takeaways opening nationally. Today, Ugo Foods is based in Borehamwood and occupies 80,000 square feet. It producing over 200,000 meals a day and employs 150 people, generating annual sales in excess of £20m. Ugo Foods is a BRC grade AA+ manufacturer supplying many large supermarket and high quality restaurant chains.
