Atlas Translations – Finalists in the Supporting Young People Award 2012
A very positive experience! We were delighted to be a finalist at the Herts Business Awards 2012 – for the Supporting Young People Award. We are very proud of the scale of our achievements in supporting the next generation. Young people are the lifeblood of the language sector as globalisation and the digital age dominate business. Language opens new opportunities for businesses to trade internationally. Our work supports companies doing that and the young people who will create and be part of those businesses of the future.
Language is a bridge to other worlds and to communicate effectively we fundamentally believe in having a friendly face and a supportive culture.
During our 21 years, we are proud of the influence we have had on 150+ young people who have completed placements. Some have gone on to create start ups, become part of the languages sector and to pursue amazing adventures. Each one left with new skills, a boost in confidence and identified their personal opportunity in the sector. We are very conscious to craft our work placement package around the individual to offer them the best possible outcome and in-job experience. Their testimonials are evidence of that.
As a trusted and reputable UK firm, the benefit of English as one of the global languages has seen our intake from as far afield as Russia, China and Portugal – and closer to home from London and Hatfield. Each year we receive around 800 applications from around the world, and offer placements to around 8 – all with an interest in learning about business. Placements are offered full training and integration into the company.
We didn’t win – this time! But it was very rewarding to sit down and look at our placement programme in a formal process and make plans for the future. We also had a great team night out, with everyone in their party clothes – and we discovered that Carol is rather talented at casino games. It was inspiring to meet so many talented and interesting Hertfordshire businesses, all doing well in these difficult times.
